Casablanca dedicates its latest collection to Nigerian youth.

While its Autumn/Winter 2023 show, entitled “For the peace”, paid jovial tribute to Syrian refugees. Casablanca chose to extend its vision to sub-Saharan Africa, in a collection christened “Day of Victory”, highlighting the reflection of contemporary Nigerian youth.

"A reflection of contemporary Nigerian youth".

To mark the 63rd anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, Casablanca’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, “Day of Victory”, was presented 2024 under the city’s Jardin des Tuileries in a sunset-colored room. This captivating vision reflects Nigerian youth in a refined aesthetic.

Tajer and his team spent time in Lagos in search of inspiration for this collection, and were clearly stimulated by the dynamism, energy and audacity of Nigerian culture. Seun Kuti was part of the cast this season, the son of the West African nation’s great cultural icon, Fela Kuti, who is also a talented artist and leader of the band founded by his father.

A sensory journey

At Casablanca, cultures meet gracefully. From the diverse cast of models to the art direction, which blends traditional Moroccan elements with a contemporary aesthetic, this multicultural richness can be found in every aspect of the brand. The bright colors and elaborate details capture the spirit, taking the public on a sensory journey.

The collection opens with a vibrant, airy color palette. Shades of green, orange, ivory white and subtle shades of coral create an enchanting atmosphere.

Sunset-colored floaty dresses with clean lines, casual organza suits, Fela’s album cover was incorporated into knitwear and an extensive motorcycle section, inspired by Tajer’s admiration for Lagos’ speed demons, included helmets and beautiful leathers with raglan sleeves.
Africa, fertile ground for designers

Last December, Chanel organized a fashion show entitled “Métiers d’art”, held in the majestic setting of the former Palais de Justice in Dakar, the Senegalese capital, showcasing the exceptional work of African artisans, particularly those from Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso. Dior also presented its men’s autumn/winter 2023 collection at the foot of the Pyramids of Giza, in Egypt – the French fashion house’s first show in Africa.

This initiative by luxury houses is part of a growing trend in fashion to look to Africa, in recognition of its rich traditions, with more and more major brands looking to Africa for sources of inspiration and collaboration with local artisans. Ultimately, Africa is becoming a major player in the fashion industry.
