What will non-genre fashion look like in 2023? Stylist Tahi Guy and British photographer Andy Long present their vision in an exclusive editorial.

Parisian stylist Tahi Guy, known for his sublimation of French film personalities such as Sayyid El Alami, Carl Malapa and Deborah Lukumuena, invites himself to an edito designed exclusively for IMPAKT. True to his signature and highly contrasting aesthetic, Tahi Guy teams up with London photographer Andy Long for an edito dedicated to the poetry of French hip hop.

“Trying to always be true to myself and my creativity, I tend to collaborate with people who inspire me. With Emmanuel, I went to explore the 18th arrondissement of Paris, the place that has always been for me a place full of history, where I have always managed to find inspiration.
My aim was to have fun with the different contrasts reflected in the neighborhood, while respecting my own style and signature, as well as to soften the principle of gender in clothing by bringing in a genderless aspect; Jean Paul Gaultier dress, Amina Muaddi shoes or tartan kilt while maintaining the model’s virility.

“Hip-hop Poetry: a love poem about the depth of my person, a stylist who draws inspiration from the people and things that surround him on a daily basis.”

For some time now, gender-neutral fashion has been evolving exponentially. Major ready-to-wear brands such as Urban Outfitters, Asos and Zara offer “unisex” clothing lines.
In 2016, Zara launched a non-gendered collection called Ungendered and in 2017, H&M launched a collection of non-gendered denim basics called Denim United. And some luxury brands are following suit: Gucci, known for its subversive positioning, now offers a line called Gucci Mx, described as “a handpicked selection of clothing and accessories with a gender-fluid focus”.
Today, in 2023, the message conveyed in the fashion world and by young people is that it’s no longer a question of shopping in the “unisex” department to represent one’s neutrality, but above all of fighting against stereotypes linked to dress codes based on gender. It’s about eliminating old habits that tend to categorize people by what they wear.

From male stars like Lil nas X or Harry styles in dresses on red carpets, to the emergence of “genderfluid” brands like Jeanne Friot, Eckhaus Latta, or accessories label Telfar that go so far as to reject the binarity of gender by approaching it as a spectrum. Gender boundaries are more controversial than ever in fashion today.
