PFW 2024/2025: when the world of manga takes centre stage at the Loewe fashion show

This isn’t the first time that pop culture has found its way into the world of luxury. We saw it recently with the Fendi x Pokemon collab, for example. This time, it’s on the runway that pop culture is making its presence felt, as Loewe made a little nod to the world of manga during its catwalk show for Paris Fashion Week 2024-2025!

On Wednesday 28 February, Loewe presented its autumn/winter 2024/2025 collection to the fashion world at the latest Paris Fashion Week. It’s a collection inspired by spring, with a lot of maximalist cuts. The line between feminine and masculine is becoming finer and finer, and the brand is exploiting the art of tailoring to the full. We caught a glimpse of dresses, shirt-short ensembles and corpcore looks with blazers, pegged trousers and tie-dye shirts.

A daring mix with a dominant colour palette inspired by neutrals: brown, green, beige, white and black.

For this collection, Jonathan Anderson’s muse is none other than the artist Albert York. An American artist from the neo-romantic era. He was renowned for his precise and subtle technique, and his use of light and colour to create evocative atmospheres. His works are characterised by a poetic sensibility and quiet simplicity, often capturing scenes of everyday life or tranquil landscapes.

But beyond Loewe’s highly original pieces, the glam looks also made an impact. And it’s hairstylist Guido Palau who’s behind these bowl cuts embellished with green, red or blue. A style that’s “a bit tomboyish and futuristic, with a touch of manga-inspired fluorescent colour that gives it a cartoonish look”, the hairdresser tells VOGUE.

Ces coupes couplés aux tenues, et très vite on a des modèles tout droit sorti de l’anime My Hero Academia ou d’un Ghibli.

That's nothing new!

This is not the first time that Loewe has drawn inspiration from manga. Earlier, we referred to Ghibli. Well, the Spanish brand has already collaborated with the studio, and a Loewe x Studio Ghibli collection was launched on 2 February 2023. Loewe has taken The Voyage of Chihiro and transformed it into leather goods (its signature Puzzle and Flamenco bags), jumpers, shirts and shorts.

What’s more, the Spanish luxury house has also taken Chateau Ambulant and turned it into jumpers and bags.

So we can only wonder if these manga-inspired cuts, seen on the PFW catwalk, were just a quirky, original idea, or a hint of a possible future collaboration.
